Pride in our Promenades Programme (Mersey Waterfront)
Description of Scheme : Pride in our Promenades is a flagship theme within Mersey Waterfront, aiming to transform many of our historic promenades, which have suffered from years of neglect. The plan is to unite them into a superbly designed, world-class seafront where visitors and residents alike can enjoy the sense of connection between sea and land that promenades invite. The Mersey Waterfront programme seeks to transform 135km of coastline beginning in Sefton and taking in the world famous Pier Head and its three graces, the Wirral Peninsula, Halton and the coastal section of Cheshire. It is not only bringing millions of pounds of investment to transform the area, it is energising the communities that live alongside the water, and connecting buildings with beaches with wildlife with business with transport with tourists with artists with industry with the wider environment. Over 40km of waterside walkways are being revamped, including Otterspool Promenade in Liverpool and the riverside walk from Seacombe to New Brighton. The Leeds & Liverpool Canal through south Sefton and north Liverpool is part of the programme, because the towpath provides a city-to-sea route around the working North Docks, linking the promenades in Liverpool with those in Waterloo and Crosby via Rimrose Country Park.
