Hanwell Flight Of Locks

This series of six locks in close succession on the Grand Union Canal in West London has been designated a Scheduled Ancient Monument by English Heritage, and has become a popular attraction for visitors to the canal. Refurbishments to the lock surrounds were identified, including restoration of the old side ponds, which offer an ingenious traditional method of saving water when the locks are in operation. Additional funding was sourced from London's Waterway Partnership, which will also contribute towards the provision of information for visitors.
