Boating in London

Boats bring life and vitality to the waterways and boating, which is becoming increasingly popular, is one of British Waterways London's core businesses. There is strong demand for quality moorings throughout the region, with particular emphasis on residential berths. New development sites across the capital's waterways are enhancing the environment and acting as a catalyst for regeneration, offering to create new water based destinations and a range of new mooring facilities.

We provide moorings for residential, non-residential and visiting boats at a variety of locations across our network.

We also work with private sector developers to encourage them to create moorings and off line basins as part of land-based developments. Recent developments include Brentford Island and Engineer's Wharf which provide over 50 new moorings within the capital. Both schemes form the centrepiece of mixed use developments which incorporate the waterways at their heart.

We are also working to improve facilities for boats visiting London, establishing new boater facilities at Stonebridge Lock on the River Lee Navigation in Tottenham and at Brentford, where the Grand Union Canal meets the Thames. New visitor moorings have been created in Paddington Basin and there are long term plans for the continued development of the basin by providing a range of moorings for both permanent and visiting boats.
