Before you download the Waterspace Strategies...
A waterspace strategy outlines aims and objectives for the use of a body or stretch of water, taking into account local context and how the land and water interact with each other. They are subject to key stakeholder engagement and can be adopted as Supplementary Planning Documents.
Purpose of the Strategy Document
For the life of individual projects and longer term development programmes, the Waterspace Strategy should be:
- Rigid and specific enough to provide effective guidance in terms of waterspace activity but responsive enough to accommodate changes in project briefs and land based project parameters;
- Active as a reference document whose recommendations should be considered at all stages of the wider design process from inception to detailed design. It should also fully address "end-user", management and maintenance issues;
- Inclusive, in the sense that although primarily concerned with waterspace activity, the focus is on the inter-relationship/interaction of the waterspace with land based activities; and
- Non-prescriptive, so that it is useful as a dynamic "design tool". It should still, however, steer and guide the design/development process ensuring that the recommendations for waterspace treatment become primary elements in developments.
In this way the full development, regeneration, social, economic and enhancement potential of the waterspace and surroundings can be recognised and fully realised.
