INLAND MARINA INVESTMENT GUIDE

In 2006 we published an Inland Marina Investment Guide. In light of experienced gained since 2006, some of the costs and returns included within the business model are now being reviewed along with the demand forecasts. Our 2006 mid range projection of the number of new boats coming onto our network by 2010 proved to be quite accurate. The launch of the guide was very successful in generating wider interest in the development of new and expansion of some existing marinas. Applications continue to be received and are at various stages of the planning and design process. The Guide did not seek to justify the need for new mooring berths, or give significant guidance on where new marinas should be located. Instead it left these decisions to the market to determine. Consequently, the geographical distribution of investment has not been as uniform as we might have hoped. The need for new marinas remains strong in many places.

We have decided not to re-issue the 2006 Guide, but are reviewing different methods to provide assistance to prospective marina developers. Prospective marina developers should continue to undertake their own research into the viability of their proposal and should take professional advice to determine the suitability of a site, likely development costs and the likelihood of securing a successful planning consent. If you need assistance in making an application to connect a new marina to our waterway network please have a look at the rest of this website which contains lots of helpful information.
