British Waterways Cares For The Old - South West

British Waterways, which cares for more than 2,000 miles of canals and rivers across the UK including the Kennet & Avon Canal , has been confirmed by English Heritage as the third largest owner of Listed Structures in the country. With over 3,000 designated examples of industrial heritage and engineering feats nationwide, the public corporation wants to encourage even greater numbers of people to visit local waterways and discover the significance these structures have to Wiltshire's industrial past.

Scraping The Bottom Of The Kennet & Avon Canal

This Autumn British Waterways is investing over half a million to dredge sections of the Kennet & Avon Canal . The engineering works will remove silt that builds up on the canal bed and obstructs navigation over time and is an important benefit for the thousands of boaters and visitors to the waterway each year. It is also environmentally important for the wildlife that flourishes in and around the waterway.
