British Waterways optimistic over Chasewater plans

British Waterways has announced that it hopes to avoid overnight lock closures during the forthcoming main boating season as part of its plans to manage water levels over the course of the Chasewater Reservoir works.

Since the March 2010 National Boat Check, licence evasion across British Waterways’ waterways in England and Wales has remained stable, with 95.1 per cent of boats holding licences.
New life pumped into Bath’s leaning landmark

British Waterways is to lead a project to repair and restore a unique chimney at the Bath Flight of Locks on the Kennet & Avon Canal thanks to an award of £50,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Visitors and local people alike are being invited to enjoy their Easter Weekend at Stourport-on-Severn. In addition to the usual attractions including the Riverside Meadows, amusements, play area and fairground, families will be able to follow an Easter Trail, which will start from the Tontine Garden at Stourport Canal Basins.

Lloyds Banking Group has appointed Price Waterhouse Coopers as administrators to the Waterside Pub Partnership (WPP) following a failure to agree further financing. Scottish & Newcastle Pub Company (S&NPC) will no longer act as managing agents for the 17 pubs affected.

From 9am on 19 April 2011, an online booking system will enable boaters to reserve a visitor mooring on London’s waterways during summer 2012. This is in response to research which indicates that there will be strong demand for mooring in the Capital throughout the Olympic Games.
