Reed warblers - a sound of the waterways

The elusive reed warbler is alive and well on the UK’s navigations, research from the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) shows. Numbers of the birds have been increasing on manmade canals and rivers, despite an overall decline in the species nationwide.

Former British triple jumper and world record holder Jonathan Edwards CBE, officially opened a new foot and cycle bridge and waterside pathway on the River Lee in Bow this afternoon. The project fills in the missing piece in a continuous 28-mile waterside route from Hertfordshire to the heart of east London.

BRITISH WATERWAYS IS ALL FIRED UP ON THE OXFORD CANAL

This week has seen the start of a five week restoration project on the Oxford Canal in Warwickshire to restore a historically significant 19th century brick kiln to its former glory. The kiln will eventually produce bricks for future canal projects.
