Changes to boat licence fees 2010

In November 2009 British Waterways published a short consultation paper on proposals for changes to boat licence fees for 2010. There were 57 responses to the invitation for feedback, including 14 from organisations representing boat licence holders. Based on this feedback, decisions have now been made on changes to boat licence fees and the payment process.
British Waterways and the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust pilot third sector

As part of its plans to establish a ‘national trust’ for the nation’s canals and rivers, British Waterways (BW) together with the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust (KACT) are piloting an innovative approach to managing the 200-year old Kennet & Avon Canal. The launch of the initiative will give the people that use and enjoy the waterway and the communities that live alongside it a much greater say in how the canal is managed.

BW's 2010 works programme reflects boater feedback

BW’s latest survey of more than 2,000 boat owners at the end of 2009 shows that opinions about the overall upkeep, value for money and experiences on the waterways remain stable. It reports that almost nine out of ten boaters (87%) would either definitely or probably recommend boating to other people.
British Waterways creates head of community engagement post

British Waterways (BW) has established a senior management position specifically looking at community engagement across the 2,200-mile network of canals and navigable rivers it cares for. Caroline Killeavy has been appointed head of community engagement with a remit to grow the number of people volunteering across the waterways and so lay the foundation for any future transition of BW into the third sector.
