Timetable
The lock has been built by engineering firm Volker Stevin. The programme began in March 2007 and is confined to the immediate area of Prescott Channel and Three Mills Wall River.
Short-term impacts of the scheme will include:
- scrub clearance on Prescott Channel (to be replaced by native plant species) and pollarding of the mature trees along Three Mills Wall River
- occasional construction traffic accessing the site via Sugar House Lane and Gay Road, with construction materials, wherever possible, brought in by water
- construction noise, mostly during the early stages of the project, planned to minimise the impact on local businesses and homes
- [short-term] disruption to pedestrian access across Prescott Channel and along Three Mills Wall River, with diversions in place while access routes are improved
Milestones:
- Installation of first control gate on Prescott Channel – April 2008
- Installation of Three Mills Wall Gate - October 2007
