Delivering a good boating experience

We monitor boater satisfaction through regular surveys and use the findings to set priorities for a wide range of maintenance tasks (like grass cutting, lock repairs and dredging) and provision of services such as water points, visitor moorings and sanitary facilities.

We aim to keep the waterways open for cruising all year round and keep closures for essential repairs and maintenance to a minimum, and usually in the winter months. We maintain and publish information about planned stoppages, temporary closures and restrictions to help boaters plan their cruises.

Our waterway units hold regular meetings for representatives of local user groups, and we meet and consult regularly with the boating trade and national boating consumer organisations. All these contacts provide invaluable insights into boating customers' needs.

Our boaters' guides display maps of all our waterways in England and Wales showing the location of moorings, boater facilities and boatyards. We urge all boatyards, marinas and mooring operators to keep their information up-to-date on the waterscape.com website. As well as publishing the information online, we use it to produce local information sheets for customers without access to the internet.
