Town Planning

With the renaissance of canals in Scotland , town planning plays an important role in our future property strategy. The influence of planning on local and structure plans will affect our overall strategy and the general use of the canal in the years ahead. Many public bodies now realise the wide ranging benefits the canal can bring to regenerating urban areas and creating new environments where people can work, rest and play.

Our planners are working on a number of water space strategies for councils throughout Scotland and many of the recommendations will be included in future policy. Some of the waterspace studies underway at present include the River Carron, River Leven, Clydebank Rebuilt and River Forth. The River Clyde study was completed in late 2005.

Our planners also work closely with the estates and acquisition team to provide guidance on the latest legislation, to identify future opportunities and assist with new consents or change of use applications. Master planning for key development sites is also controlled by our planners who liaise with all our internal teams to take into account the different objectives.
