Service For The Falkirk Wheel

17 January 2005

Scheduled maintenance and training programme signals start of new season preparations

The Falkirk Wheel is undergoing a scheduled service following a successful festive season which saw hundreds of visitors take to the water in special Wizard of Oz adventure cruises.

The closure of The Falkirk Wheel from 10th January to mid February was planned some time ago and is part of a regular maintenance programme for the unique structure.   The site, including the visitor centre and surrounding area, will be closed to all visitors for the duration of the programme.

Commenting on the Christmas celebrations and the forthcoming maintenance and training programme, Richard Millar, Lowland Canals Manager at British Waterways said:   ?A successful Christmas period rounded off another good year for The Falkirk Wheel which saw record numbers of visitors enjoy a trip to see the world?s first rotating boat lift.

?Our attention is now focusing on the new season with preparations including the regular servicing of The Falkirk Wheel and staff training and development.   We deliberately scheduled this programme for the low season to ensure minimum disruption to our visitors and we look forward to welcoming everyone back when the work is complete in February.?
