Historic Vehicles At The Falkirk Wheel

13 July 2006

There may not be planes or trains at The Falkirk Wheel on Sunday, July 30 th , but visitors will be able to enjoy at least two modes of transport - automobiles and boats!

Young and old will have the opportunity to hop on board one of the fantastic boat trips which run throughout the day as well as admire a convoy of up to 20 classic and historic vehicles including a1930s Austin and 1950s Rover.

The fleet of engineering classics will be on site from 12.30 p.m. until 4 p.m. thanks to Fife Historic Vehicle Club (FHVC) whose members will also be on hand to answer any questions people have about their vehicles.

Richard Millar, Service and Business Development Manager, British Waterways Scotland , said: "The cars, like The Falkirk Wheel itself, are true engineering feats and I am sure everyone who visits the site will savour this rare opportunity to see so many beautifully restored historic vehicles in one place."

Formed in 1977, the FHVC has over 70 members who enjoy restoring and running their historic cars, motorcycles and even classic buses!

Alan Hay, secretary, Fife Historic Vehicle Club, said: "People are interested in vintage and classic vehicles for a number of reasons. There's the history and the mechanical side of things but, for many of our members anyway, it also has to do with what vehicle they drove as a kid. We hope visitors to The Falkirk Wheel will enjoy admiring our vehicles as much as we enjoy driving them."

Boat trips on The Falkirk Wheel cost £8 for adults, £4.25 for children and £6.60 concessions. Children under three go free. A family ticket (two adults and two children) is priced at £12.50. Boat trip bookings can be made by calling 08700 500 208. Further information on The Falkirk Wheel can be found at www.thefalkirkwheel.co.uk

Entry to the classic and vintage car exhibition is free.
