The Property and Development team comprises a number of different functions including estates, town planning, building surveying, GIS, development and investment. British Waterways has a track record of investment in income producing canalside opportunities and we continue to seek new opportunities beside the network in Scotland .

Our Property team also purchases land and buildings for use by the waterway in their daily operations. This can include land for developing new moorings or buildings for conversion to alternative uses or buildings suitable for conversion to alternative uses that can accommodate new businesses.

Development through joint ventures is an area for future growth in Scotland. We are keen to work with adjoining landowners to combine assets to provide canalside development opportunities. The joint venture with Miller Developments at Edinburgh Quay is an excellent example and there are many more opportunities across the network to provide an active attractive canalside environment.
