River Carron Gateway

The eastern entrance to the Forth and Clyde canal is a tidal river, the River Carron, with both head room and depth restrictions. British Waterways Scotland has commissioned a feasibility study into the issues associated in improving the navigation of the River Carron. It was expected that the feasibility study would recommend a barrage, however the current preferred approach, very much in draft, is a new canal cut, down the side of the River Carron. We are developing a funding strategy for the suggested navigation solution.
