River Leven

The possible canalisation of the River Leven was one of the aspirational initiatives contained within The Scottish Executive's 2002 policy document, Scotland 's Canals - An Asset for the Future. There is no doubt that the potential restoration of navigation along the River Leven from Loch Lomond to Dumbarton on the Clyde, and ultimately a connection to Scotland's revitalised Lowland network, is a hugely exciting proposition which could unlock significant regeneration opportunities and flood defence benefits for Dumbarton.

Considerable work has already been undertaken and the consultation process is moving forward, however this is a long term vision which will require the agreement of a huge number of partners and stakeholders.
