About Us

British Waterways South West looks after over 117 miles of inland canals and 42 miles of rivers, with varied canals such as the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal originally built for commercial use and the Kennet & Avon Canal restored as recently as 1999.

We are tasked by the government to ensure that navigation channels remain open and in a safe and well-maintained state. Our remit also covers other aspects of waterway management such as environmental matters and customer service.

At British Waterways South West we also work closely with our partners to realise our vision. Our partners are a valuable asset to us; without them a great number of projects could not be undertaken.
